These early Austrian political and paramilitary rally badges are highly sought after by collectors because they pre-date and document the early, aggressive expansion period of the NSDAP's paramilitary wings outside Germany

On June 5, 1932, the so-called “Gausturmtag” of the Austrian NSDAP in Upper Austria took place in Linz. It was a large paramilitary event organized by the banned SA/SS and attended by around 12,000 National Socialist supporters.
Participants: An estimated 12,000 people took part, about 4,000 of whom appeared in uniform.
The march took place, among other locations, in Linz’s Volksgarten. Despite the large number of participants and the high state of military readiness, the gathering reportedly remained peaceful according to police reports, without the serious clashes that had been feared.
The prohibited demonstration displayed the strength of the National Socialist movement in the region. A noteworthy detail was the participation of around 160 soldiers (mostly artillerymen) in civilian clothing, indicating National Socialist influence within the Austrian Federal Army in Linz. *

Historical documents and reports of the Federal Police Directorate of Linz from this period can be consulted in the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives and the Archive of Adult Education Centers.
