This item belonged to a, recipient of the German Cross in gold, the Close Combata Clasp in silver and holder of several Tank Destruction Badges in silver. He commanded 14./Gren.Rgt.253 which was part of 34 Infanterie-Division. Hauptmann A. defended a bridge of the Dnepr river with two Assault Guns of 3./Pz.Jäg.Abt.34 allowing the XXIV. Korps to cross the river. This avoided the destruction of 4 Wehrmacht divisions. His commander, Oberst Ferndinad Hippel (commander of 34.Inf.Div.) was awarded the Knight's Cross on the same day: 22.10.1943.
