The reverse of this clasp is clearly marked FEC W E PEEKHAUS BERLIN, AUSF A G M uK GABLONZ. Details such as shorter crimping to the back-plate and the fluted banjo style pin clearly attributes this to the maker’s second variant (type 1.2.2). The hinge, pin and catch are all intact and functional. The clasp is finished with a Dark bronze Brennlack wash. Certainly one of the finest condition clasps we have seen.
The Close Combat Clasp was introduced in 1942 for personnel who fought in hand-to-hand combat unsupported by armour in either Bronze, Silver or Gold. Criteria for award of the bronze clasp was fifteen days of hand-to-hand combat.
