A great looking polished steel Hakenkreuz, measuring about 125mm – 5 inches on a Marble base. The rear of the Swastika is coated with a matt black finish, and possibly the green baize on the base is a later addition.

These were apprentice pieces made by the Hitler Youth at the company – Welger Maschinenfabrik Wolfenbüttel. Please look at the photos as although they are copy photos ( bar one) they do show the pieces being made, and a table full of completed ornaments.

This is a well-designed and hand finished piece that would fit well with any display

Of note the company was founded in the 1800’s, and the period between 1933-45 has been erased from their History. Wolfenbüttel Prison which was nearby. It was one of two main execution sites in Northern Germany. By 1945, at least 516 people had been executed there by hanging or guillotine. Among the victims were civilian prisoners, members of the Wehrmacht, forced labourers, and prisoners of war from the Netherlands, Russia and Poland.
