A quality textbook example of a Luftwaffe Ex double decal M35, retaining its gorgeous original parade blue paint. On the side of the helmet, the second pattern Luftwaffe eagle decal is an absolute gem and is 99% intact. On the opposite side, the tri-colour shield decal has been hand-scratched off by the soldier it belonged to, in order to comply with 1940 regulations. All 3 rivets and washers are present and tight to the helmet, impossible to see on a helmet with an unoriginal liner. Although some areas of the liner fingers have started to show their age in terms of wear, the drawstring is original to the liner and completely untouched. On the interior neck guard is the stamped lot number “4768″, interior left side has the manufacturer code and size stamp “Q64″ for F.W. Quist, G.m.b.H. Esslingen. The chinstrap is in fine condition, and really sets off the stunning overall condition and quality of this helmet.
The M16 and M18 helmets remained in usage into the early years of the Third Reich until the development of the smaller, lighter M35 style helmet in June 1935. The Luftwaffe eagle was originally introduced for wear by Fliegerschaft personnel in 1934, and adopted for wear by the Luftwaffe in March 1935 along with the tri-colour. The first pattern national eagle was used until the second pattern eagle was introduced in 1936. 1940 Regulations discontinued the use of the tri-color, as it was eventually realised that a red stripe on a helmet does tend to draw fire.
