Stunning in every aspect and 1000% real –untouched and mouth-watering – How many times can you really say that on a piece?
This is a totally untouched – straight from a high end collection – originally purchased from the states from one of those “high end” dealers.
Do I have to describe it? Collectors know exactly what it is………. and if it if period or not.
The helmet retains a good portion of its original feldgrau paint. Attached all over the helmet it has European style chicken wire applied for securing camouflage foliage. Wire is all original to the helmet and untouched!!– There is one small “downer” which is not bad considering it’s age. A small part of the chicken wire has snapped and it has been folded under the existing wire (see pictures)
The size of the shell is 64 with the maker being NS for -Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke, Schwerte. – and makes the supple liner (which is free from splits cracks and tears) about 57. The liner pins are tight and have not been messed with, and there is a fair amount of dust, grime, and general “tightness” about the helmet. The wire has been folded into the zinc band liner to originaly secure it and stop it from falling off.
The lot number I cannot determine as it would mean disturbing the wire – but it is a no decal helmet! It does not have a fitted chinstrap, but interestingly there seems to be the remains of some string from a net to secure additional camouflage attached to one of the chin strap bales – This is one of the few original “real” chicken wire helmets out there for this kind of money.
The only ones I have seen for sale lately are half baskets – that are suspect at best – for nearly 3K!!!
As always my items carry a 7 day inspection period – and feel free to ask the “experts” on the forums – as it will pass any muster
