Nebel Truppen (Smoke Troops) materials are some of the rarest of all German Army World War II branch insignia to find.This is a beautiful example of a private purchase officers peaked cap piped Bordeaux Red for “Smoke Troops” It has the quality that can only be appreciated in hand, it is faultless for something that is nearly 70 years old. Not one moth track, nip or tear, and the cap has an excellent shape.The front centre of the cap features a alloy national eagle and N oak-leaf wreath in bright silver/aluminium The interior of the cap is fully lined in two grades of golden/tan rayon with a smooth finish to the crown lining and a ribbed finish to the body lining. The interior crown lining has a clear celluloid sweat diamond almost intact. The interior of the cap also has a wide, natural tan leather sweatband, there are no makers marks that I can see
The Nebeltruppen branch colour was originated by combining the light blue of Transport troops and the bright red of Artillery troops. Although designated “Bordeaux rot” (wine red), it had a distinctive purple hue.
