This is a lovely ‘walking out’ or Parade “long version” bayonet. Nickel plated hilt with ‘Birds head’ pommel, Red felt insert with working bayonet catch, and nickel crossguard with swept-back Quilon. Diamond chequered black bakerite grips held by two dome head steel rivets. single edged, nickel plated blade, Nickel plating on the bayonet blade showing some very light abrasions and the rest of bayonet only shows only very light wear, Leather washer intact and the ricasso is marked with ‘W.K.C.’ for ‘Weyersburg Kirchbaum & Cie. Solingen and the Knight’s Helmet logo. Complete with a black painted scabbard where about 80% of the paint remains, housed in the proper frog, which is an unmarked example – frog is nice and supple
Generally when purchased the dress bayonets also came with a coloured, felt “plug”, at no extra cost, to be inserted in the “TO”, slot on the pommel with a red felt plug for most armed forces personnel and a green felt plug for Jäger, (Light Infantry), personnel. Luftwaffe personnel also utilized red, green, golden yellow and brown dress bayonet felt plugs depending on their actual branch of service
