His KC commendation reads: “Over the eastern campaign Macher distinguished himself by bravely participating in attacks against Pawlograd. He rallied his Kompanie, eliminated two companies, 2 tanks, forcing 10 to retreat. Exceeding this assigned task, he eliminated MG nests and a Pakfront in close combat, capturing an anti-tank ditch.”
He became Himmler’s adjutant in 1944, and acted as bodyguard during Himmler’s capture in 1945. Macher survived the war and died December 21st, 2001.
