A one-of-a-kind early NCO artillery visor cap with a unique difference. The cap is approximately 57/58 Cms. All insignia is original and tight to the cap, and is in very good condition, with the eagle maintaining all 3 prongs. The green felt band has very little damage.  and the red waffenfarbe is completely intact. The sweatband leather remains supple, and the inner cork padding has worn away through time and usage. The silk lining is in great condition, with none of the sadly common rips, moth-nips or tears. Although the celluloid diamond is not present, printed on the silk is “Deutsches Wertarbeit” with a Wehrmach soldier wearing a cap; this directly translates as “German Workmanship”, a term synonymous with quality German craftsmanship.

The army did NOT get issued with white topped caps. This cap was presumably commissioned by a Wehrmach soldier who would (understandably) wish his cap to match his white summer tunic. This cap top was professionally tailor-made in white corduroy fabric, which has very slightly discoloured over time, using machine stitching. It was hand-finished to attach the fabric to the cap itself and to stitch the cap’s fabric top to the side of the cap to maintain its shape under the weight of the additional heavier fabric. Bear in mind, if there was any hint of the white top being a reproduction I would have removed it without hesitation; none of the fabric or cotton glows under a black-light. It is 100% the real deal, clearly owned and proudly worn by a patriotic soldier, and exudes quality in every stitch. We could find no other example of this for sale – ever!
