An absolutely stunning piece of 3rd Reich art – 2 sided – multi piece constructed flag for the factory of Gothaer Waggonfabrik A.G.- in the area of Thuringia, Germany. This flag measures approximately 19 inch square, and it is possible it is a “trumpet Banner, as it does have 2 metal clips for fixing/displaying, these are attached by a black cloth loop.-Red cotton cloth as the background, with 2 tiny moth nips, and white letters heavily embroidered with the wording “Betreibszelle Der Gothaer Waggonfabr A.G. DAF cogwheel displayed in the centre, with “Gotha” under. The reverse simply says Die Gothas”.It has thick aluminium strands to the edge. A superb display piece, and a perfect size, in a word “rare”. I never have seen another, and never will!
Gothaer Waggonfabrik was a manufacturer of rolling stock established in the late nineteenth century at Gotha, the fifth-largest city in Thuringia, Germany, located 20 kilometres west of Erfurt.
Gotha’s main contribution to the Luftwaffe was the Gotha Go 145 trainer, of which 1,182 were built. The firm also produced the Gotha Go 242 assault glider and licence-built Messerschmitt Bf 110. Perhaps the most famous Gotha product of World War II, however, was an aircraft that never entered service, the Horten Ho 229. This was an exotic jet-powered, flying wing fighter aircraft designed by the Horten brothers. Two prototypes flew, the second (powered) version lost in an accident on its third flight. the third prototype- built to a modified design – was almost complete and four more were in various stages of manufacture before the end of the war.
